Are You Healthy Enough For Your New Year’s Resolution?
Sheltering Arms Holding Free Fitness Checkups for Residents Starting New Year’s Exercise Programs

Richmond, Virginia – It happens every year. When it comes time to think about your New Year’s resolution, the first thing that comes to mind is “start exercising.” However, if you’re one of the millions of Americans who doesn’t exercise regularly, you should make sure your body is ready. Sheltering Arms, a Richmond-based rehabilitation healthcare provider, is holding free New Year’s Resolution Checkups this year to make sure that nothing holds you back as you achieve a healthy lifestyle.

The fitness checks will be held at the following locations:

Sheltering Arms Bon Air
206 Twinridge Lane
Richmond, VA 23235

Spine & Sport Center (on the St. Mary’s Hospital Campus)
1501 Maple Avenue, Suite 100
Richmond, VA 23226

Free checkups will be available at two locations on Friday, January 4, 2008 from 2:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m., and on Saturday, January 5, 2007 from 8:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. The highly trained fitness specialists from Sheltering Arms will evaluate not only basic health indicators, but also will assess strength, endurance, balance and flexibility. At the end of each assessment, they will make recommendations tailored to each person’s abilities.

“It’s obviously important to stay fit, and exercising is an extremely common New Year’s Resolution,” said Dr. Deborah L. Kelo, Sheltering Arms’ Manager of Aquatic/ Fitness Services and Acceleration Richmond. “Before getting started, it’s critical to receive a checkup like the one’s we’re offering, particularly if you haven’t exercised for a while.”

Kelo says there are four important things to remember when starting your New Year’s fitness program: set realistic goals for results; find out your weight and measurements before you start so you can gauge results; listen to your doctor about limitations; and seek proper instruction for new exercises and exercise equipment.

For those who have physical limitations and even those who don’t, Sheltering Arms offers memberships to its state-of-the-art fitness facilities, along with individualized attention, in a warm and welcoming environment. Memberships include consultation with Sheltering Arms fitness specialists and use of the fitness centers at Sheltering Arms’ Midtown and Maple Avenue locations, and also the fitness equipment and pool at Sheltering Arms Bon Air.
