LOCAL CHURCH INVITES COMMUNITY TO MAKE BRYAN PARK "BETTER TOGETHER"
Hundreds to Participate in Beautification Project

Richmond, March 25, 2006 - Volunteers from Hatcher Memorial Baptist Church are teaming up with other North Richmond organizations on a project to improve their community. On March 25th hundreds will converge on Bryan Park to beautify a part of the facility that has yet to fully recover from the effects of Tropical Storm Gaston. The "Better Together in Bryan Park" project will focus on the area around the pond at the southern entrance of the park.

"Our sole desire on March 25 is to partner with community friends and neighbors in making things better. Beyond shovels and shrubbery, the real treasure in Better Together is connecting neighbor with neighbor for the common good," said Hatcher Church Senior Pastor Michael Poole. "Our congregation will turn out for this effort because we want to make new friends and demonstrate love for our community in practical ways."

Also involved in "Better Together in Bryan Park" are the organizations Friends of Bryan Park and the Bryan Parkway Civic Association. Expert landscapers have also volunteered to give their time and materials, helping to design the improvements to be made. Included in the plans for the day are a general cleanup, new greenery, benches, and even a gazebo overlooking the pond. There will also be activities for school-aged children, food and drinks, giveaways, and a demonstration by a professional tree climber!

The public is invited to assist with the work being done to improve this valuable Richmond resource. Volunteers should feel free to bring their own shovels, rakes, trimmers, hammers, and other equipment. To join in, come to the northern entrance of the park off of Bryan Park Avenue, at the south end of Westlake Avenue. Digging, planting, and building will begin at 9 a.m., and will continue all day.
