Accentuating the Positives at George Wythe High School
CIS of Richmond Organizes Bull Dog Honor Week

Richmond, Va (January 7, 2007) - Everybody hears the bad news about inner city schools, but you rarely hear good news about these institutions. A program called Communities in Schools (CIS) of Richmond is hoping to do something about that problem this week, with a series of events highlighting positives at George Wythe High School in Richmond's Southside.

CIS of Richmond is a not-for-profit program that works to place extra resources in 24 public schools around Richmond to help parents and students with everything from getting medical help to learning how to manage anti-social behavior.

"With all of the challenges facing youth today, the CIS Citizen's Advisory Group (CAG) decided it's time to do something special for those students at George Wythe who are achieving at a high level, " said CIS Program Director AJ Blue-Saunders.

Bull Dog Honor Week, from January 8th through the 12th, will involve more than 200 of the approximately 1,110 students from the school, including 75 who have perfect attendance.

*Assembly honoring first semester achievements of the freshman class. Motivational speaker will be Marvin Green
