An Explanation of PRWeb — on Video

PRWeb, the online news release distribution company, released a viral-type video today that hopes to explain the service. I’m particularly tickled by this video because I actually helped with it. I was interviewed by Common Craft, the production company that made the video, as an example of a “power user”. Yes … I’m tooting my own horn. Toot. Toot.

Here’s the video!

Where’s Our Google Pagerank Update?

I wrote in this space back on July 25 that a Google Pagerank update was underway.  Guess what?  It’s not finished.  Updates usually take a week or three.  There’s a lot of buzz on the “internets” about what’s going on … everything from the update still being underway, to Google actually deciding to do away with Pagerank (or at least the displaying of Pagerank).

I don’t see Google actually eliminating PR altogether.  It’s supposedly the backbone of the search engine.  If they did away with it, they’d have to rebuild the entire house of cards.  However, eliminating the *display* of PR is a possibility.  As we know, Google is on a crusade against link spam, and much of link spam is based on getting links on the sites with the highest PR.

The most likely explanation for the delay is that Google is reconfiguring their search matrix somehow, but I have no evidence of that.  With Google, you don’t learn anything about what they’re doing until it’s already done … and even then, they don’t tell you much.

And so, this blog’s PR remains at zero.

Google Pagerank Update Underway, Maybe

SEO geeks professionals around the net are abuzz today, as there’s a lot of speculation that Google is running its latest pagerank update. What does this mean for you and your website or blog? Not much. Your pagerank is actually constantly updated. However, what’s visible on the Google’s toolbar and other tools you can download that show pagerank is only updated a few times a year. BUT, if you have a high pagerank people may be more willing to link to you and see your site as an expert.

The last pagerank update gave Media Relations and SEO PR a PR3. However, right after the update I changed the directory where this blog sits from www.endgamepr.com/wordpress to www.endgamepr.com/blog, which wiped out my visible pagerank. My guess is that my little blog will end up with a PR3 or PR4. We’ll see when it’s over!

Feedburner Stats PRO and My Brand Now Free

I noticed some changes this morning when I logged into Feedburner to look at my stats. Two services that you had to pay for previously, Feedburner Stats PRO and My Brand, are now offered free … at no charge :)

PRO access to the number of people who have viewed or clicked individual content items in your feed and “Reach,” which estimates the daily number of subscribers who interacted with your feed content.

The My Brand service is something definitely worth looking into both for SEO and branding reasons. It allows your feed to appear as though it’s actually coming from your website. Instead of having a URL something like http://feeds.feedburner.com/mycoolsitefeed, the address can be http://www.mycoolsite.com/feed.

GoDaddy to Rescue 850K RegisterFly Domain Names

GoDaddy, the world’s largest domain name registrar, has agreed to take over 850,000 domain names managed by competitor RegisterFly. As was previously posted on this blog, RegisterFly is in a heap of financial and operational trouble. Truth is, they’ve had trouble for years. The domain names transferred to GoDaddy had been in limbo with RegisterFly. Owners couldn’t transfer or renew.

Full disclosure: I’m a former and still unhappy RegisterFly customer who switched to become a very happy GoDaddy customer.

An excerpt from the Associated Press story published this evening about the deal:

“For the past few months, they were pretty much in the dark and there was a lot of frustration there,” GoDaddy Chief Executive Bob Parsons said in an interview. “All that is a thing of the past.”

Parsons refused to disclose terms of the transfer deal, saying they are confidential. But he said GoDaddy isn’t buying RegisterFly, so any lawsuits and other previous disputes remain with RegisterFly.

The deal calls for RegisterFly to give GoDaddy its customer databases. Transfers of names will be automatic, and GoDaddy will notify existing RegisterFly customers about the switch and set up a Web page and telephone hotline. GoDaddy expects to start running those names within a week.
