When you sign up for a podcast produced through OPN, you’ll be put in contact with me, and we’ll work out a time for you or your designated spokesperson to be interviewed over the phone.  Podcasts from OPN will be approximately five minutes long, and will be fully produced, including a short introduction and intro and outro music.  When completed, the podcasts can be posted as part of an OPN podcast, and will also be included in the Online PR News iTunes “store”.  Clients will also receive a copy of the file that they can post on their own web site.

While the number of dedicated podcast fans is up 300%, the technology’s steady adoption rate is closer to something like RSS’s, rather than the rocket-fast adoption of something like YouTube, which has a much lower barrier to entry.

This is great news to podcast producers who are chasing hard-to-find advertising dollars.  The study also said there doesn’t appear to be a difference in the gender of daily downloaders.

One interesting note is that this study only addressed those who time shift, or download podcasts to listen later. It did not quantify those who listen to audio presentations and podcasts online. If you added that population, the number of podcast listeners would likely be much higher.

One of the things they decided to do was create a podcast with tips for entering the competition. It not only provides information for members, but also is a great demonstration of the technology and techniques used in podcasting. My wife, Jennifer, did the voicework, and I produced it through EndGame PR Podcast Production. It turned out quite well! I’m pleased to announce the premier of VaHigherEd Podcast! EndGame PR Podcast Production, a service of EndGame Public Relations, LLC, is producing the program with the Virginia Community College System (VCCS). As stated in the news release I issued today, the podcast features students, educators, and administrators from Virginia’s Community Colleges describing their experiences in higher education and explaining how they’re utilizing Virginia’s educational excellence.

The program format is basic. An interview with one of Virginia’s Higher Education “voices” is conducted by my longtime friend and VCCS Assistant Vice Chancellor for Public Relations, Jeff Kraus. I produce a podcast around it. Most episodes will be in the vicinity of five to six minutes.

The first episode of the program was published this afternoon. You can listen on the VaHigherEd Blog, via RSS, or on podcast directories such as Blubrry and Podcast Alley. We expect to be available on iTunes soon, but in the meantime you can subscribe using this link. Or, you can just click on the play button below!

In the latest show, which is the seventh in the series, I had the opportunity to interview Jiyan Wei, a product manager from PRWeb. Jiyan had a lot of great tips on how to optimize your news releases for online distribution. He also gave some “dos and don’ts” for online news releases, and chatted a bit about the new social media release some people are pushing. I had a great time talking with him and I hope you’ll give the episode (and others in the series) a listen.

An exit strategy is a plan for what will happen when you retire or are no longer able to run your business. If you’re a small business owner, you NEED an exit strategy. If you’re thinking about starting a small business, believe it or not, you should already be thinking of your exit strategy.

So, the Fighting Back Podcast is now hosted on RapidFeeds. It’s a great service that so far is working like a charm. It includes everything I mentioned above, plus they do stats for you. Podcasters, almost as a rule, are stat junkies.

So, why would you need to use a feed generation service? My main reason is to have a nice, clean feed. The Fighting Back Podcast is hosted on a WordPress blog, which takes care of feed generation for you. However, in each episode blog post I include a whole bunch of stuff for SEO keyword purposes. I want the feed to be much easier to read. Thus … a hosted feed is the way to go for me.

As with my review of online RSS feed creation sites review, I have to say a quick word about Feedburner. They don’t generate feeds (although why they don’t offer that, I have no idea) but they host them extremely well. They ability to have your feed HTML-compatible is huge for people who don’t quite get RSS yet. Plus, they offer quite a few ways to promote your feed. I recommend checking them out once you have a feed up and running.

We recently launched the EndGame Public Relations Podcast Production service. Prior to becoming a PR professional I spent eight years as a journalist .. most as a radio news anchor and reporter. My podcasts reflect that experience, and generally sound like an NPR report. Sorry to sound like a commercial, but please check out the service. Podcasting can be a powerful business tool.

Since moving to a paid platform in December, the PRWebPodcast ™ service is now available to customers with press releases at any distribution level. PRWeb users can now choose to discuss their news in a 5-minute podcast interview or a more in-depth 10- to 20-minute interview. PRWeb Podcast episodes are available in three audio formats, including MP3, OGG, and the iPod and iTunes friendly M4a format.

Since I have a background of 7 years as a radio and television journalist, I really enjoyed getting behind the microphone again to do some work. My goal was to produce an NPR style report, and I think I got there. I’m very open to feedback in comments!

Of course, I’m launching this service before I actually have much information about it on my website. Typical. I’m going to be making some additions to the EndGame Public Relations website over the next day or two to add a podcasting section. Stay tuned.
