When you sign up for a podcast produced through OPN, you’ll be put in contact with me, and we’ll work out a time for you or your designated spokesperson to be interviewed over the phone. Podcasts from OPN will be approximately five minutes long, and will be fully produced, including a short introduction and intro and outro music. When completed, the podcasts can be posted as part of an OPN podcast, and will also be included in the Online PR News iTunes “store”. Clients will also receive a copy of the file that they can post on their own web site.

To listen to a sample OPN podcast, click play on the flash player below. For more information on this offering, visit the Online PR News podcast page.

For those who think podcast listening is leveling off … think again. According to Pew Internet Research (hat tip to Podcasting News for alerting me to the story), the total number of people who have ever downloaded a podcast increased by 58% in the last two years — from 12% of the population to 19%. And, the number of daily podcast downloaders increased from 1% to 3%. Podcasting News points out the obvious, that the adoption of this technology has been slow, but steady:

While the number of dedicated podcast fans is up 300%, the technology’s steady adoption rate is closer to something like RSS’s, rather than the rocket-fast adoption of something like YouTube, which has a much lower barrier to entry.

This is great news to podcast producers who are chasing hard-to-find advertising dollars. The study also said there doesn’t appear to be a difference in the gender of daily downloaders.

One interesting note is that this study only addressed those who time shift, or download podcasts to listen later. It did not quantify those who listen to audio presentations and podcasts online. If you added that population, the number of podcast listeners would likely be much higher.

Plug alert: If you’re interested in using podcasting to promote your business, please check out BizPodz, the podcast production service from EndGame Public Relations!

She’s an active member of our local Public Relations Society of America (PRSA) chapter, and is working to organize the 2008 Virginia PR Awards. The theme this year is “Let’s Get Connected”, which encourages members to learn about social media.

One of the things they decided to do was create a podcast with tips for entering the competition. It not only provides information for members, but also is a great demonstration of the technology and techniques used in podcasting. My wife, Jennifer, did the voicework, and I produced it through EndGame PR Podcast Production. It turned out quite well! If you’re a PR pro, even if you’re not in Virginia, there might be some useful tips in there for you. It’s also a good example of how EndGame PR Podcast Production can work to create an original “one off” program.

Give a listen in the podcast player below, or head straight to the PRSA Richmond page to download the audio file.

Yes … I know … I just did a promotional post. Well, here’s another one.

I’m pleased to announce the premier of VaHigherEd Podcast! EndGame PR Podcast Production, a service of EndGame Public Relations, LLC, is producing the program with the Virginia Community College System (VCCS). As stated in the news release I issued today, the podcast features students, educators, and administrators from Virginia’s Community Colleges describing their experiences in higher education and explaining how they’re utilizing Virginia’s educational excellence.

The program format is basic. An interview with one of Virginia’s Higher Education “voices” is conducted by my longtime friend and VCCS Assistant Vice Chancellor for Public Relations, Jeff Kraus. I produce a podcast around it. Most episodes will be in the vicinity of five to six minutes.

The first episode of the program was published this afternoon. You can listen on the VaHigherEd Blog, via RSS, or on podcast directories such as Blubrry and Podcast Alley. We expect to be available on iTunes soon, but in the meantime you can subscribe using this link. But, if you’ll tolerate one more, I’m pretty excited about this. The episode of the podcast One Minute How-To featuring my “How To” was released yesterday afternoon! OMHT is a show where guests try to explain how to do something in one minute or less. I chose to give tips on how to choose a business name. It was a great experience for me because the show’s host, George Smyth, is such a pro.

Here’s a link to my episode: How To Choose A Name For Your New Business.

A side note — One Minute How-To was just selected as a finalist for the 2007 Podcast Peer Awards in the “Best Short Podcast” category. Congratulations, George! Visit the PPA site to see the full list of finalists. If you are a podcaster, you can participate in the voting of your favorite podcasts in each category of finalists.

If you don’t know about it … shame on you for not visiting more often!

In the latest show, which is the seventh in the series, I had the opportunity to interview Jiyan Wei, a product manager from PRWeb. Jiyan had a lot of great tips on how to optimize your news releases for online distribution. He also gave some “dos and don’ts” for online news releases, and chatted a bit about the new social media release some people are pushing. I had a great time talking with him and I hope you’ll give the episode (and others in the series) a listen.

To listen, you can go to the post on the Startup BizCast blog, load the Startup BizCast Feed in your favorite RSS reader, or click on the podcast player I’ve installed on this blog. It’s in the sidebar to the right … can’t miss it … big yellow button … says “listen now” … yup, there it is!

Enjoy the show, and don’t forget to leave me some feedback with your thoughts on the episode or tips for future shows!

PS – If you’ve been thinking about starting a podcast for your own business but don’t have the time or inclination to do it yourself, check out EndGame PR Podcast Production!

Quite often their friends and family members can’t fully understand the pressure of “going it alone”. Now there’s help. Startup BizCast launched today, a podcast providing small business advice and education from owners of small businesses.

The podcast is produced by EndGame Public Relations Podcast Production, and is hosted by me, Steve Mullen. Prior to becoming a PR guy, I spent a number of years as a radio reporter and news anchor, and I love podcasting. I’m currently the owner of two small businesses as well.

The inaugural episode published yesterday, and is an overview by me of the podcast and an introduction to myself. I also threw in some advice about corporate blogging to make it more useful. The next episode is already in production, and will be released in the next day or so. It features advice about exit strategies from Jay Cowan of RiverCross Partners. An exit strategy is a plan for what will happen when you retire or are no longer able to run your business. If you’re a small business owner, you NEED an exit strategy. If you’re thinking about starting a small business, believe it or not, you should already be thinking of your exit strategy.

To subscribe to the podcast via RSS (Really Simple Syndication), use the Startup BizCast Feed with your favorite feed reader. You can also listen to episodes and download them at the Startup BizCast website.

Sponsorship opportunities are available. For more information, visit the EndGame PR Podcast Production web page.

So, I was thinking about doing a review of Podcast Feed Generators. I mean .. I’ve reviewed online news release distribution services and online RSS feed generators, so why not? But, as I was doing some research, I found the market is pretty thin. I really only came across one site that really did what I wanted: give me the ability to create a feed that includes enclosures, is iTunes compatible, is easy to create and update, and is hosted.

So, the Fighting Back Podcast is now hosted on RapidFeeds. It’s a great service that so far is working like a charm. It includes everything I mentioned above, plus they do stats for you. Podcasters, almost as a rule, are stat junkies.

So, why would you need to use a feed generation service? My main reason is to have a nice, clean feed. The Fighting Back Podcast is hosted on a WordPress blog, which takes care of feed generation for you. However, in each episode blog post I include a whole bunch of stuff for SEO keyword purposes. I want the feed to be much easier to read. Thus … a hosted feed is the way to go for me.

As with my review of online RSS feed creation sites review, I have to say a quick word about Feedburner. They don’t generate feeds (although why they don’t offer that, I have no idea) but they host them extremely well. They ability to have your feed HTML-compatible is huge for people who don’t quite get RSS yet. Plus, they offer quite a few ways to promote your feed. I recommend checking them out once you have a feed up and running.

We recently launched the EndGame Public Relations Podcast Production service. Prior to becoming a PR professional I spent eight years as a journalist .. most as a radio news anchor and reporter. My podcasts reflect that experience, and generally sound like an NPR report. Sorry to sound like a commercial, but please check out the service. Podcasting can be a powerful business tool.

They didn’t actually mentioned the name of the person who put them over the top, but PRWeb announced today that they’ve had more than one million downloads from their podcasting service. The number, according to the news distribution service, is actually now at 1.3 million … but who’s counting? In addition to its news release distribution and other services, PRWeb will produce a podcast version of your news release for you…

Since moving to a paid platform in December, the PRWebPodcast ™ service is now available to customers with press releases at any distribution level. PRWeb users can now choose to discuss their news in a 5-minute podcast interview or a more in-depth 10- to 20-minute interview. PRWeb Podcast episodes are available in three audio formats, including MP3, OGG, and the iPod and iTunes friendly M4a format.

I love PRWeb, but I’d rather you signed up for the EndGame Public Relations podcasting service. Nevermind that I’ve been so busy with client work that I haven’t yet built out the page on my website that describes the service…

Now I’m launching the service with the inaugural podcast from my client, Fight SMA. The Spinal Muscular Atrophy Podcast focuses on inspirational stories about people and families fighting against spinal muscular atrophy (SMA), the leading genetic killer of children under two.

To listen to my work, visit:
The blog entry I wrote at FightSMA.org about the first Spinal Muscular Atrophy Podcast or subscribe to the Spinal Muscular Atrophy Podcast Feed that I set up on Feedburner.

Since I have a background of 7 years as a radio and television journalist, I really enjoyed getting behind the microphone again to do some work. My goal was to produce an NPR style report, and I think I got there. I’m very open to feedback in comments!

<strike>Of course, I’m launching this service before I actually have much information about it on my website. Typical. I’m going to be making some additions to the EndGame Public Relations website over the next day or two to add a podcasting section. Stay tuned.</strike>

I built out the Podcasting Production page on the EndGame Public Relations website. More information is available there. I’m sure there are a number of companies out there that want to do a podcast, but don’t have the in-house capability. If you’re one of those companies, contact EPR!

Here’s a news release on PRLog with more information on the inaugural Spinal Muscular Atrophy Podcast.
