Pay Per Tweet

twit4Twitter may not be profitable yet, but some other companies are trying to make money from its users. I just read an article on ReadWriteWeb about the service Magpie, which pays users for the right to hijack their Twitter feed and insert advertisements. From what I can see, the Twitterers get paid by cost per thousand (CPM), based on how many times the ad is tweeted and how many followers a Twitter user has. Given how many bots are on Twitter, this particular plan is horribly flawed unless I’m missing something. I’ve seen Twitterers who have only posted once but yet have thousands of followers. Those followers obviously aren’t real people. I suspect this system will fail eventually.
