Web Video for your Business: An Example
Right up front, I’ll remind you (and inform those who are casual visitors of this blog) that part of my business is production of vidcasts and web videos. I’ve talked to a number of business owners and marketing professionals who have said, “Really, I don’t know what on EARTH my business could record that would be of interest.” I always tell them that there’s *something* there, we just have to find it. Here’s an example from a business that you wouldn’t normally expect to have much to say in the web video space. I give you …. napkin folding from United Linen:
Would YOU expect to be interested in a web video from a linen company? I wouldn’t. But, with some creativity and smart thinking, this company has found something that they do on a regular basis (fold linens) that they can teach via web video. The tactic is working, and the video is spreading virally. Holiday entertainers would likely find this information fun and useful. The above video is actually the first in a series. The second teaches you to fold in the shape of a candlestick. Bravo to them!

Steve:
Thanks for the mention. We have had a good response from these videos and look forward to doing more. One idea we have is to do a plant tour and show our customers what it takes to process a napkin…take them on a ride so to speak.
I agree with you. Whether your business is accounting, linen, or shoe repair, there are countless topics you could cover in video. Name a business and I’ll bet I can come up with 50 different vcast ideas.
The above video was super simple to create. We used a Canon A630 digital camera and a busted tripod ($10.00). I had a co-worker stand over me to shoot the bird’s eye view of the fold. I edited the video with Adobe Premiere 3.0 (outdated). Since everthing is paid for, this video coast me $0 to produce, about 20 minutes to shoot, and 20 minutes of editing time.
Anyone can do this.
Scott
Thanks for the rundown of what it takes to produce a web video. These productions can definitely be done very cheaply. Even if you want something more professional looking, the cost isn’t exorbitant.
Glad the tactic is working for you. You’re doing a great job!
