Podcast Listenership Increasing Rapidly
For those who think podcast listening is leveling off … think again. According to Pew Internet Research (hat tip to Podcasting News for alerting me to the story), the total number of people who have ever downloaded a podcast increased by 58% in the last two years — from 12% of the population to 19%. And, the number of daily podcast downloaders increased from 1% to 3%. Podcasting News points out the obvious, that the adoption of this technology has been slow, but steady:
Social Media Crashes the Conventions
The Los Angeles Times online edition this week has a great rundown of how social media is crashing the presidential nominating parties this month, listing what each of the big sites is up to and with whom they’re partnering.
It’s a good read. Check it out here: Social media mobs the national conventions
Corporate Apparel Client Site Live Today
I just finished up work on a new client website today, and I’m very happy with the results. The client is Corporate Apparel, Inc., a company based in Midlothian, Virginia that provides corporate apparel items such as suits, shirts, hats, and uniforms to businesses across the country. Until now, they had no website whatsoever (oh the horror!).
I worked the company’s owners from the very start of the process, consulting on the best URL to purchase and where to buy their web hosting. I even set up email accounts using their new web address! The site itself was built using WordPress as a CMS, much like I did with my own recent redesign. The website includes a blog, which they plan to populate with company and vendor news.
Check out the results here: www.corporateapparel-inc.com
And, if you’re looking to purchase corporate apparel for your business or event, please contact them. In addition to providing great products, they’re great people too!
High Costs Hurting Political News Coverage?
An item in U.S. News & World Report’s Washington Whispers column is raising some eyebrows and causing quite a bit of talk.
Rocked by warnings that it will cost news organizations $50,000 more per reporter to cover Sen. Barack Obama or Sen. John McCain, a growing number of journalists and press pundits are questioning why the media is staffing up coverage of the political conventions where little major news is expected. At least one paper and several Washington bureaus, we’re told, have budgeted only $100,000 for political coverage, and their convention teams will eat most of it, leaving little to put reporters on the campaign trail. Mark Potts, a media consultant who blogs about the industry on RecoveringJournalist.com, goes further: Leave the campaign coverage to the big shots, like AP, and spend that money at home. “That $50,000 would go a long way toward paying the annual salary for another reporter to cover something readers really care about, like city hall, or local schools.”
WordPress Web Design and SEO Tip
Here’s a big tip if you plan to use WordPress as a CMS for your website, particularly if you’re working off of a fresh installation of WordPress:
As you might know, I recently redesigned the EndGame Public Relations website, moving it from being html-based to php-based and using WordPress as its content management system (CMS). The site was ranking extremely well for the keywords I targeted, falling in the top five on Google and Yahoo for all of them. Shortly after the redesign, however, I found that every time Google re-indexed my site, a few more of my pages would disappear from the rankings for my keywords. I figured they would return shortly and made a few moves to speed up the process.
