Online News Release Writing - Don’t Forget to Link!

A new study released recently by EON Businesswire brought to light some interesting information. Well, it’s interesting if you ever write online news releases anyhow. According to the research, of the thousands of releases distributed on Businesswire and its social media platform EON, only 1% (yes, one out of 100) actually included web links to … anything! Shocking, but apparently true!

I think at the root of this is people who are writing releases for 1997, not 2007. In other words, they’re writing them for reporters.

Release distribution on the web is not just a way to inform reporters about your news, it’s a way to get your news directly in front of potential customers via RSS feeds, social media, and the like. Releases not only give your customers a way to find more information about your company, if used properly they can give search engines information about your website and an idea of where it should be ranked. Additionally, if there are no links in the release copy, you’re obviously not building backlinks when it’s posted on another site.

One thing hasn’t changed over the years — if your customer can’t find you, they’re not buying anything from you. And, when you’re talking about the Internet, that is why SEO PR services are important.
